Musipple is an innovative music player that seamlessly blends traditional Chinese aesthetics with contemporary technological advancements. The project, led by designer Ziqiang He, started in October 2023 in Beijing and finished in February 2024. The design draws inspiration from the serene imagery of ripples, a motif deeply embedded in Eastern philosophy, and aims to cultivate a harmonious blend of Eastern and Western cultures, bridging the gap between the ancient and the modern, and offering users a unique auditory experience that redefines the essence of music listening.

Musipple, designed by Ziqiang He and his team, is a music player that combines traditional Chinese culture and modern technology. Inspired by ripples, a common Eastern image, and combined with the shape of a vinyl record player, it hopes to achieve the fusion of Eastern and Western cultures and the fusion of ancient and modern times, creating an interesting interaction and bringing users a new music-listening experience.
The technology behind Musipple involves the selection of high-strength plastic as the main material for the box, with various panels and connecting parts assembled using compression molding, screws, and glue. The design also includes internal padding and soundproofing, as well as surface treatments such as sanding, painting, and spraying to enhance the beauty and protection of the wooden box. The music player boasts a Bluetooth 5.0 capability with aptX Adaptive AAC SBC encoding, an amplifier power output of 240W, and a frequency response of 35Hz~24kHz.
Furthermore, the interaction with Musipple is designed to be unique and special. To turn on the music player, users need to move the pole to the center of the ripples, creating an interactive experience that is consistent with the way vinyl records play music. The design team, including Ziqiang He, Hao Zhang, Yunan Lin, Sihong Chen, and Yue Gao, overcame challenges in achieving the integration of Eastern and Western cultures and the integration of tradition and modernity through meticulous design and modeling semantics.
He Ziqiang is a doctoral student in design at Beijing Institute of Technology, and his works, including Musipple, have won internationally renowned design awards such as the iF Student Award and the K-Design Award. He believes that artificial intelligence technology will greatly expand the scope of design and improve the effect of design, allowing us to embrace artificial intelligence and embrace new design models.
