Forty-Nine Union Liquor Packaging: A Testament to Chinese Culture

Yamin Zhu's Forty-Nine Union Liquor packaging is a celebration of Chinese culture and heritage. Crafted with white porcelain and intricate designs inspired by ancient Oriental philosophy, this collection reflects the brand's commitment to preserving and promoting Chinese liquor culture. The packaging comprises a white porcelain pot, shot glasses, a brush pot, and a wooden box, each meticulously designed to endure across generations.

The central motif of the pot is the Forty-nine Union's emblematic seal character logo, encircled by ornate double Chinese dragon motifs. Adorning the reverse side is the prominent character 'Xin', symbolizing 'faith', embellished with the Taotie pattern. The divider's design is inspired by the 'Zun' vessel shape from the Shang Dynasty, with relief decorations featuring Taotie patterns. The wooden box showcases a double Chinese dragon motif in African rosewood, accented by a copper square metal at the front, employing traditional handcrafted mortise and tenon techniques reminiscent of Ming and Qing furniture.

This design offers a full set of tools for enjoying Chinese drinking culture, suitable for upscale occasions and designed to last for generations, contributing to environmental preservation through its lasting legacy. The project started in April 2023 in Shanxi, China, and finished in May 2023. The research behind this design aimed to spread the drinking culture and values of the Forty-nine Union to more partners, while also presenting the Chinese philosophies of "Chinese chivalry", "loyalty", and "trust" to a wider audience. The design has won the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in 2024, recognizing its outstanding and trendsetting creation that reflects the designer's prodigy and wisdom.
