Meridiana: Redefining Spatial Orientation through Light and Shadow

Taiwanese designer Tsu-Wei Chang presents Meridiana, a residential project that challenges conventional spatial plans by integrating three-dimensional layers through concave folding, circulation, and material textures. The design aims to create a visual orientation of space by harnessing natural light from different angles, resulting in captivating layers of solid and void.

The project employs three techniques to manipulate light and shadow, including curved walkways, reflective materials, and textured walls, emphasizing the trajectory of light according to the light source in the area. The use of various building materials and carefully selected lighting fixtures further enhances the interplay of light and space.

Spanning 185.1 square meters, the residence features distinct social and private areas, with extended walkways serving as galleries and turns showcasing art pieces. The design seamlessly integrates technology to ensure precise control of indoor conditions, noise reduction, and a luxurious living experience.

Chang's meticulous attention to material texture and light presentation results in a timeless exploration of light and space, creating an exclusive and immersive experience for the occupants. The project was honored with the Iron A' Design Award in 2024, recognizing its innovative and practical approach to interior space design.
