FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ching Hsiang Peng's "The Dance of Light" is a groundbreaking residential apartment design that focuses on redefining spatial layout to create an interplay of light and shadow, offering a more accessible lifestyle for its residents. The focal staircase not only connects the levels but features the interplay of light and shadow, inviting in natural light and creating varied patterns throughout the day. The floating staircase with a bare concrete wall surface forms an aesthetical and practical volume, allowing residents to feel the time changes as sunlight moves.
A floating staircase fixed to the wall that sits in front of large windows solves the issue of obstructing traffic flow, reducing volumes that block movement and forming an open square layout. It creates an interplay between light and shade, allowing the residents to feel the time changes as sunlight moves. Integrating the bathroom and kitchen wall removes oddly-shaped corners and enlarges usable space.
The project started in February 2020 and finished in August 2020 in Hsinchu, Taiwan. The residence is designed with a focus on child-caring and family companionship, turning the space underneath the staircase into a spacious play area instead of storage space. The kitchen is enlarged by removing the corners that block views, allowing the parents to attend to children and household chores at the same time while enjoying comfortable home life.
