FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Museum of Uncertainty at La Brea Tar Pits

The Museum of Uncertainty at La Brea Tar Pits is a groundbreaking project by designer Xuechen Chen, celebrating the site's history and offering a unique immersive experience. The museum seamlessly integrates modern architecture with prehistoric elements, utilizing the existing tar as both a display and an active excavation site. With a focus on engagement and curiosity, the project aims to spark conversations while honoring the site's rich history.

Comprising three distinct structures, the museum provides visitors with a multifaceted experience, simulating submersion beneath the tar and leading to a central gathering area. The exhibition features fossils from storage and the hallway, while the research building interconnects various excavation sites, creating a labyrinthine circulation for visitors to witness the excavation process. Additionally, the institution building allows visitors to attend lectures and overlook the expansive excavation sites.

The project, although unbuilt, boasts a remarkable 522,720 square feet and is located at the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles. The design draws inspiration from the thrill of discovery within the excavation process, aiming to decipher and unveil the narratives concealed within and share these captivating stories with future generations. The museum's fusion of modern and prehistoric elements visually narrates the site's history, enticing visitors to explore hidden enigmas and fostering conversations and exploration.
