FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Pugongshan Geology Museum: A Sustainable Transformation

Baofeng Li, in collaboration with Yi Qingqing and Pan Jialiang, has completed the Pugongshan Geology Museum, a transformative project that repurposes abandoned lime kilns into a sustainable museum in Henan Province, China. The museum is designed to promote ecological education and sustainable development by integrating the old lime kilns into the museum's structure. The design aims to anchor the museum within the site, emphasizing the spirit of the place and the significance of using recycled materials.

The museum, with 4 floors and a total construction area of 3,314.5 square meters, is a testament to sustainable development. It combines the new museum with the existing lime kiln, using uncalcined limestone as a landscape element and the continuous old kiln group as the iconic gate of the geopark. The kiln roof has been transformed into a viewing platform, highlighting the old lime kiln while deliberately concealing part of the exhibition space into the ground to maintain the site's unique character.

Beginning in 2018 and completed in 2020, the Pugongshan Geology Museum is a pioneering project that overcame challenges such as convincing the owner to preserve the dilapidated lime kilns and merging old and new buildings. The museum's design and construction emphasize the integration of the old and new, presenting a remarkable example of sustainable architecture and ecological education.
