Zéh Chair: Elevating Brazilian Carpentry

Alexandre Kasper presents the Zéh chair, a minimalist masterpiece inspired by the rich woodworking tradition often personified by the name "Ze" in Brazil. Crafted from solid tauari wood using 5-axis machining, the Zéh chair pays homage to the dedication and skill of Brazilian carpenters, offering a blend of tradition and innovation in furniture design.

Sophisticated ergonomics, sculptural arm design, and the integration of false tenons set the Zéh chair apart, showcasing a unique synergy between structural stability and aesthetic appeal. The chair's production process was strategically designed for efficiency and cost-effectiveness, resulting in a product that harmonizes form and function.

Starting in January 2023 and concluding in September 2023, the Zéh chair project was realized in Medianeira, Paraná, Brazil. The design process involved a mixed research approach, combining exploratory and applied research to understand Brazilian carpentry traditions and integrate 5-axis machining technology. The Zéh chair has been awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2024, recognizing its outstanding expertise, innovation, and remarkable level of excellence.
