Discover the innovative and immersive design of Flava, a plywood and veneer showroom, conceptualized by Silambarasan Ganapathy, located in the heart of Bangalore's industrial hub.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Flava, a two-level plywood and veneer showroom, challenges the traditional retail space by seamlessly blending segregation and connectivity. The showroom, spanning 3500 sq. ft., features a monochromatic canvas that dissolves boundaries between surfaces, creating an immersive and sculptural experience for visitors.
The design, realized using parametric design tools, showcases a Voronoi tessellated ceiling and feature elements made of Birch plywood, providing a clean and flexible space for product display while maintaining a strong architectural presence.
The showroom's innovative use of materials, including Birch plywood for walls and ceiling, and grey Epoxy for flooring, sets it apart as a contemporary and computationally designed space.
âFLAVAâ proved to be immensely advantageous, allowing for greater control over the design process and the potential to iterate quickly and efficiently. The ability to map the Voronoi cells on the ceiling is a great example of how the use of parametric design tools can enable architects to explore complex geometries that may not be possible through traditional design methods. The focus is kept on materials and fabrication techniques, and by prioritising these aspects, we were able to create a design that was both feasible to fabricate and aesthetically pleasing. The use of parametric design also allowed for precise control over the fabrication process, which is essential for ensuring that the final product meets the desired specifications.
Flava's design brief aimed to create a distinguishable visual identity, providing a flexible space to accommodate maximum display while focusing on their core product, Birch plywood. The showroom's unique design has received recognition across various platforms, including the prestigious A' Design Award, where it was awarded the Silver in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2023.
