Modelhane: Redefining Workspace Design

Podna Architects has unveiled Modelhane, a groundbreaking project that seamlessly integrates an office and a handbag production workshop, setting a new standard for workspace design. The design inspiration behind Modelhane was to create an atmosphere reminiscent of an art gallery and laboratory, blending precision and hygiene with the artistry of handbag production.

The unique properties of Modelhane lie in its open, uncluttered space, minimal partitions, and a cohesive yet distinct atmosphere. The design aimed to differentiate different programs within the space using bricks with varying geometries, creating a seamless flow of the production process.

Realized in Istanbul, Modelhane features a transparent and minimalist interior architecture, drawing inspiration from the existing waffle structure on the ceiling, concrete, and an all-glass facade. The design team incorporated lighter, more permeable materials while staying true to the use of concrete and glass.

Modelhane was brought to life by a talented team of architects, including Lara Hekimoglu Sen, Sureyya Guven, and Bennu Tunc Yasar. The project was completed in a span of three months, from January to March 2023, in Istanbul.

Modelhane's design revolves around a free plan, with the interior architecture centered around three main spaces: a meeting room with a display area, workstations, and a cutting room. The production area features a semi-permeable material chosen to achieve a silhouette effect, distinguishing the cutting room from the main space.

Podna Architects' Modelhane has been recognized with the Silver A' Design Award in 2024, showcasing outstanding expertise and innovation in interior space, retail, and exhibition design. The project exemplifies a remarkable level of excellence, introducing positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
