Award-winning designers Daisuke Nagatomo and Minnie Jan unveil "Pulse," a digitalized emotional light signal at Weiwuying Park, Kaohsiung, during the Taiwan Lantern Festival 2022.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Renowned designers Daisuke Nagatomo and Minnie Jan have unveiled "Pulse," an innovative art installation at the Taiwan Lantern Festival 2022. The concept behind Pulse is to digitize emotions into a light signal, synchronizing LED strips with specially created background music. The installation, located in the national Weiwuying park, Kaohsiung, represents the emotional states of new immigrants through a unique combination of digital technology and organic structural form.
The 7-meter wide, 7.8-meter deep, and 5.8-meter high structure incorporates steel tubes of different diameters, supporting a fiber mesh that connects the top ring and bottom waved structure. The LED light strip and the bottom steel structure are digitally controlled to match the background sounds, creating a captivating visual and auditory experience.
Operating during the sunset, the LED light stripe changes color as the background sound starts, with a 3-minute lighting show every thirty minutes to express the emotional state of new immigrants. The installation was completed in Kaohsiung following a meticulous design and development process, including prefabrication in Taoyuan.
Pulse visualizes the emotional states of immigrants entering a new realm, representing the myriad of feelings experienced during this transition. The installation received the Bronze A' Design Award in Fine Arts and Art Installation Design in 2022, recognizing its outstanding and creatively ingenious design that contributes to quality of life improvements.
