Ann Yu's innovative design project, Guangzhou Julong Bay, a city-planning exhibition hall and civic center, breathes new life into century-old warehouses, preserving history while embracing modernity.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ann Yu's transformation of the Chongkou warehouse, a group of old warehouses on the river bank, into the Guangzhou Julong Bay Exhibition Center, is a testament to the successful adaptive reuse of historical structures. The project, located on the west bank of the Pearl River, retains the industrial past of the original granary while creating a contemporary city-planning exhibition hall and civic center. The design showcases a harmonious blend of traditional and modern elements, featuring a large-span steel frame, handmade bricks, and a full-slope glass curtain wall system.
The project's core idea was to ensure new functional usability while presenting the old site in an attractive way to the young generation. The innovative approach garnered high praise, earning the project a remarkable score in the SITES Sustainable System, a first in China. The design's unique properties lie in its ability to act as a beacon, encouraging participation in the revitalization of the old district, while preserving its historical significance.
Completed in February 2022 and exhibited in May 2022, the Guangzhou Julong Bay Exhibition Center stands as a symbol of successful adaptive reuse, breathing new life into historical structures and inspiring future generations.
