Canopy by Hilton Hangzhou Jinsha Lake: Integrating Local Culture and Modern Luxury

Lighting Design Partnership International (LDPi) (China Branch) has unveiled the innovative lighting design for Canopy by Hilton Hangzhou Jinsha Lake, a glocal lifestyle hotel brand within Hilton's portfolio. The hotel, located in the Qiantang New Area of Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, China, seamlessly integrates local culture with modern luxury, offering a unique and positive stay experience for guests. The design draws inspiration from the local Hangzhou culture, incorporating elements such as the Osmanthus flower and heron sculptures, as well as the waves of the Qiantang river, creating an immersive environment for visitors.

Unlike traditional luxury hotels, Canopy by Hilton focuses on thoughtfully integrating simple guest-directed service and local culture into the hotel experience. The Hangzhou Jinsha Lake location is Asia's second Canopy hotel, following the first in Chengdu, Sichuan province, China. The hotel features energy-saving LED lights with high color rendering index, creating a warm and comfortable ambiance for guests. The lighting design also virtually detaches the iconic canopy bed frame from the wall and ceiling, adding a distinctive touch to the guestrooms.

The lighting design project commenced in May 2017 and was completed in November 2019. Throughout the project, LDPi's approach to lighting design emphasized the importance of organic lighting that recognizes the dynamic nature of daylight. The design team overcame various creative and technical challenges, ensuring that local cultural elements were seamlessly integrated into the hotel's lighting scheme. The project was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2021, recognizing its outstanding expertise and innovation.
