Ä°sil Gencoglu's restoration project brings historical Despot House back to life as a hotel on Cunda Island, Ayvalik, Turkey

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Restoration of Despot House

Despot House, a historical building with a rich past, has been meticulously restored by Ä°sil Gencoglu and her team, preserving its original texture while re-functioning it as a hotel. The restoration, completed in 2019, aimed to revive the building's historical significance and provide a unique hotel experience on Cunda Island.

The restoration process involved extensive cleaning, renewal of wooden floors, reconstruction of damaged elements, and reinforcement of the building's foundation and structural system. The hotel now features 6 rooms in the basement, 7 rooms on the ground floor, and 7 rooms on the first floor, along with additional facilities such as restaurants, spa baths, and horizon pools.

Ä°sil Gencoglu's dedication to historical preservation and architectural excellence has earned her the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in Cultural Heritage and Culture Industry Design in 2020, recognizing her outstanding work in bringing Despot House back to life.
