Ä°sil Gencoglu's restoration project, the Cevzat Ecological Hotel, breathes new life into 18th-century stone buildings, creating a sustainable retreat in Mardin.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ä°sil Gencoglu's restoration project, the Cevzat Ecological Hotel, transforms two 18th-century stone buildings, Cevzat and Su Kasri, into a sustainable retreat in Mardin. The project draws inspiration from the historical background and natural topography of the buildings, aiming to preserve their originality while meeting the region's need for an ecological hotel.
The restoration process involved cleaning and preserving the existing stone textures, using local materials to complete missing stones, and incorporating steel and glass construction for modern additions. The hotel features 7 rooms, a reception, a cafe, a restaurant, and a kitchen, all designed to blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings.
The project, which won the Silver A' Design Award in 2021, is a testament to Gencoglu's dedication to preserving historical buildings and reimagining their function for future generations.
