Renowned designer Maggie Yu completes the ReRoot project, a renovation of a residential house in Taipei City, blending old memories with modern living.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Maggie Yu, along with her team members Huang Ming Wei and Chou Yi Kuan, has completed the ReRoot project, a renovation of a 149 square meter residential house in Taipei City. The project, which commenced in January 2018 and concluded in June 2018, aimed to integrate the owner's childhood memories with a modern living space.
The project was inspired by the owner's nostalgic connection to the space inherited from his parents. The design team overthrew the original space partitions and moving lines, choosing to retain parts of exposed reinforced concrete as a symbol of the owner's roots and childhood memories. The renovation successfully created an open space with a high ceiling to welcome the new family members while preserving the emotional anchor for the owner.
ReRoot received the Bronze A' Design Award in 2020 for its outstanding and creatively ingenious design, which authentically combines experience and resourcefulness. The project balances the retention and repurposing of an old apartment, creating a modern space for new memories to grow while preserving the emotional connection to the past.
