FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Yuchen Chen's Time Capsule is a groundbreaking book design project that challenges traditional notions of bookbinding. The book's pages are independent, marked with page numbers, and designed to resemble cultural relics with burnt edges and sprinkled white powder. The text is intentionally small, requiring a magnifier to read, and the layout prompts readers to interact with the book as if they were archaeologists.
The content of the book delves into the history of graphic design, and the design concept was inspired by archaeology, aiming to provide an interactive and immersive reading experience. The book's unique properties lie in its ability to guide readers to handle and experience the content actively, making it a truly distinctive and engaging piece of art.
Realized through typography, layout, graphic, and package design, Time Capsule measures 220mm in width and 200mm in height, comprising 15 independent pages within a package box. The unconventional design encourages readers to wear dust prevention gloves, take up a brush and magnifier, and engage with the book as if they were conducting a historical investigation.
Yuchen Chen's design approach challenges traditional book design, introducing the concept of archaeology to create an interactive and fun reading experience. The project was completed in Hangzhou in January 2013, and the book's unique design encourages readers to actively engage with the content, fostering a deeper understanding of the history of graphic design.
