HCH Fashion Boutique: A Retail Basilica

Yan Pan's HCH Fashion Boutique, a retail basilica, redefines the modern commercial shopping experience with a design inspired by ancient polytheistic temples in Greece. The layout draws from the visual-axis projection principles of the Acropolis, guiding visitors through the space. The symmetrical columnar hall of the modern commercial shopping mall is transformed into a "sacred" space, emphasizing the status of consumption in today's society.

The featured prop objects in the shop, the three "bridges," are arranged to create a gradual and immersive experience for visitors, reminiscent of the ancient temples' orientation. The design utilizes GRC, Terrazzo, and steel, covering an area of 700 sqm.

The project, led by Yan Pan, involved a team of architects and designers, with construction completed in 2019 after the design phase from 2017 to 2018.

The "bridges" presented a technical challenge, requiring precise digital design and construction to support the complex GRC surface. The design also incorporates curved pink plates shaped into axis-symmetrical forms, enhancing the fashion experience for visitors.

Yan Pan, the co-founder and design principal of SpActrum, has a distinguished background in architecture and design, with a career spanning high-profile design firms and a wide range of projects. His work has been recognized with international awards, including the prestigious A' Design Award.
