Yan Pan's HPKID project reimagines childhood play with an innovative indoor playground, offering a space for children to explore and learn while reconnecting with nature. This groundbreaking design challenges traditional motifs and encourages creative interaction with abstract geometry.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Yan Pan's HPKID project is a revolutionary indoor kids playground that aims to provide a unique space for children to play, learn, and unleash their creativity. Inspired by nature, the universe, and hills, this innovative design breaks away from conventional playground concepts to offer a stimulating environment for children.
The project, which started in April 2018 in Beijing and was completed in May 2019 in Wuhan, challenges the disappearance of urban natural spaces caused by consumerism and urbanization. It offers children the opportunity to reconnect with nature and explore different depths by running on the hillside, passing through caves, and climbing up and down through connected spaces.
Utilizing digital modeling techniques, the design team tested the geometry and collaborated with manufacturers to develop a unique grid support system within the Cosmos zone. The construction method involved steel plates and a grooving system, with a complex coding system applied to indicate the position of each steel plate in the whole system. The final achievement was a set of laser cutting diagrams, allowing for convenient on-site construction.
The HPKID project, winner of the Bronze A' Design Award in 2021, is a testament to Yan Pan's innovative approach to design. As the co-founder and design principal of SpActrum, Pan's work spans a wide range of projects, including urban regeneration, public and commercial building designs, art district redevelopment, and more. His designs have garnered international recognition, including awards from AIA SH, Aâ Design, IDA, and Asia Design Awards.
