Arthur Yang's Whyte Woolf Fitness Club in Chongqing, China, redefines the concept of a fitness club by focusing on environmental awareness and spiritual enlightenment.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Arthur Yang's Whyte Woolf Fitness Club challenges the traditional approach to commercial space design by prioritizing spiritual enlightenment and environmental awareness over mere aesthetics. Inspired by the need to address urban diseases and environmental issues in China, the fitness club serves as a warning to protect and cherish the current environment. The club's unique approach aims to enlighten the minds of consumers, even during their fitness routines, by focusing on present societal problems.
The fitness club covers an area of 1500 square meters and is constructed using terrazzo, artificial wood, steel plate, and recyclable environment protection materials. The design team, including Ye Yang and Xinan Zhou, contributed to the realization of this innovative space.
Despite its simplicity, the design required meticulous workmanship to restore the original intention during construction. The project, which began in March 2019 and was completed in June 2019, faced challenges in ensuring that the design elements were faithfully represented in the final construction.
Arthur Yang's Whyte Woolf Fitness Club has been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This award acknowledges the exceptional expertise, innovation, and artistic skill demonstrated in the design, showcasing a remarkable level of excellence and introducing positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
