Atsushi Morita Unveils Origami Shikki, a Fusion of Origami, Lacquer, and Washi
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Atsushi Morita introduces Origami Shikki, a revolutionary concept merging origami, traditional washi paper, and lacquerware into a sustainable and functional form for contemporary living. This innovative expression of Japanese tradition reimagines the conventional paper plate, offering a durable, waterproof, and reusable solution for diverse cuisines.
Origami Shikki, with its lacquer finish, exhibits robustness against water and oil, making it suitable for various dishes. The fusion of traditional elements with contemporary design sensibilities presents a lightweight and foldable plate that can be easily carried anywhere.
Utilizing the traditional Echizen Washi technique, Origami Shikki showcases unique geometric designs, resulting in a visually striking and functional piece of tableware. The project, initiated in September 2020, culminated in the completion of Origami Shikki in October 2022, with an exhibition at the TAKEO Aoyama Mihoncho gallery in Tokyo.
Origami Shikki is not only a testament to Atsushi Morita's design prowess but has also been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2023, underscoring its outstanding innovation and technical excellence.
