FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Concave-Convex: Mortise and Tenon Building Blocks

Renowned designer Sha Yang introduces "Concave-Convex," a 211-piece building block set inspired by the traditional Chinese mortise and tenon structure. The project, which began in September 2022 and concluded in March 2023 in Shanghai, aims to simplify this ancient construction method into a playful and educational toy for young children.

The building blocks, made of dark black walnut and light beech wood, feature 30 simplified tenons and mortises, such as square dovetail and T-shaped tenon, allowing children to learn and appreciate the wisdom of the ancients while playing.

Designed for children over 18 months old, the set offers three levels of difficulty, encouraging the development of problem-solving skills, graphic imagination, and spatial reasoning. The project was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Toys, Games, and Hobby Products category in 2023, recognizing its innovative and educational design.
