Edoardo Gherardi's Renovation of Santa Caterina Museum

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Civic Museums of Santa Caterina di Treviso Renovation

Edoardo Gherardi led the renovation of the Civic Museums of Santa Caterina di Treviso, addressing critical issues such as structural problems and inadequate visitor services. The project aimed to regenerate the complex, create spaces for contemporary exhibitions, and ensure high-level exhibition standards.

The renovation was carried out in three phases, focusing on structural improvements, redefining interior paths, and creating spaces for international events. The project also involved the restoration of valuable masonry and the implementation of advanced lighting and air conditioning systems.

The underground hall underwent extensive waterproofing and restoration, including the installation of new air conditioning systems and a smoke and CCTV detection system.

The project covered 3,000 sqm and included the renovation of the Pinacoteca, Ex Scuderie, and the underground hall. The renovation aimed to adapt the museum to high-performance standards for setting up, safety, and air conditioning, creating spaces dedicated to contemporary art exhibitions.

Edoardo Gherardi, along with Annachiara Marcon, Nicola Frigo, Massimiliano Toniolo, Marco Gennaro, and Dario Fernandez Plaza, played key roles in the successful realization of the project.

The renovation of Santa Caterina Museum was a meticulous process that required extensive historical and artistic research, as well as close collaboration with various stakeholders, including the Municipality and the Superintendence. The project involved architects, engineers, technicians, and historic building experts, ensuring a comprehensive approach to the renovation.

The project faced numerous challenges, including the need to preserve the historical integrity of the building while meeting contemporary exhibition standards. The approach focused on subtle interventions that complemented the existing space, with neutral colors and hidden systems to ensure the visibility of the artworks on display.

Gherardi architetti, led by Edoardo Gherardi, is known for its diverse architectural projects, receiving accolades such as the German Design Awards and the Iconic Awards. Edoardo Gherardi's design for the Santa Caterina Museum was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2021, recognizing its outstanding expertise and innovation in cultural heritage and culture industry design.
