"Where The Root Is" Office Design

Carlie Ling - K.D Hsu's latest project, "Where The Root Is," draws inspiration from the unique urban qualities of Shanghai, combining western-influenced exterior and old Shanghai-styling interior. The design concept revolves around the Root, symbolizing stability and strength, with dark walnut textures representing trees, creating a stern yet elegant ambiance.

The project's unique features include a traditional Chinese tea-style reception area, offering a relaxing tea-tasting space for professional interactions. The design core, inspired by ancient Chinese concepts, manifests premium spatial quality through timber line work and patterned timber flooring, delineating circulation and usage in a subtle yet connective fashion.

The interior accommodates guest reception and office usage, featuring open-plan layouts, walnut textures, and classic Chinese window lattice-styled screens. The office supervisor's space is discreetly separated, with a dedicated tea-tasting room furnished with Ming Dynasty-inspired furniture, ensuring privacy and elegance.

Completed in May 2019, the "Where The Root Is" project overcame challenges such as ceiling height limitations and column intervals, utilizing lightweight ceiling work and dark walnut flooring to connect with storage volumes. The design received the Silver A' Design Award in 2020, recognizing its outstanding expertise, innovation, and remarkable level of excellence.
