Combine: Redefining Office Spaces with Serenity and Avantgarde

Carlie Ling - K.D Hsu presents "Combine," a revolutionary office design project that redefines the conventional office space. The project, completed in April 2019 in Shanghai, reflects a free-roaming open space, inspired by discussions held at restaurants regarding design experiences.

The design is characterized by a serene ambiance with a grey color scheme and avantgarde look and feel, offering an open plan that affords a sense of freedom and independent working space. The office design caters to the working patterns of the inhabitants, providing a design for living and social spaces.

Utilizing a mix of materials to ensure consistency and visual comfort, the design team incorporated elements such as carpet for acoustic considerations, grey walls, and fire-proof boards to demarcate functions and consolidate storage. The space boasts ample natural lighting and interior lighting fixtures that enhance spatial layers, creating different spatial expressions.

Deploying two continuous arc-shaped arch doors, the design introduces a strong sense of rhythm and layers, breaking away from the pedantic linework of conventional office spaces. The office features a long table complemented by bottom-up lighting, creating a library-like scene that fosters optimal spatial freedom.

The design incorporates elements such as open office space, grey art paint, brick walls, and polished stone, providing a unique and refreshing environment for professionals to work freely, independently, and collaboratively.

Combine was honored with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020, recognizing its outstanding and creatively ingenious design that authenticates experience and resourcefulness.
