Christos Pavlou's Garden House Project in Nicosia, Cyprus, redefines urban living with a sustainable and nature-integrated design, promoting biodiversity and reducing CO2 emissions.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Christos Pavlou's Garden House Project in Nicosia, Cyprus, is a groundbreaking sustainable urban oasis that blurs the lines between indoor and outdoor living. The project, completed in January 2019, encompasses a 188 sq.m. building area and a 346 sq.m. garden area, with gardens covering 60% of the plot. The design aims to establish a unified relationship between the neighborhood, the private garden, and the public area, upgrading the quality of the urban fabric.
The central element of the house is the extensive greenery, with gardens covering a significant portion of the plot on the ground floor and a green terrace on the first floor. The use of bee-lawn and planting of bushes, aromatics, and olive trees creates a friendly environment for bees, contributing to biodiversity and sustainability within the city.
The house is designed with two rectangular cubes and a green courtyard in-between, blurring the boundaries between the garden and the interior. Fully open sliding glazed doors capture views of the garden, the park, and the city, creating a seamless connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces.
The project addresses environmental challenges in urban areas by incorporating passive solar design, high-performance insulation materials, energy-efficient glass, and solar panels. The use of green roofs and extensive planting contributes to microclimates, improving living conditions within cities and mitigating global warming.
Christos Pavlou's architecture studio has been recognized for its outstanding work, receiving the Silver A' Design Award in 2020 for the Garden House Project. The studio's commitment to sustainable, innovative, and aesthetically remarkable designs has set a new standard for urban living, promoting ecological awareness and a harmonious coexistence with nature.
