Chih-Kang Chu debuts Trolley Coaster, a dynamic installation, at Taiwan Design Expo'19, evoking the joy of shopping in a supermarket through a unique exhibition experience.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Renowned designer Chih-Kang Chu unveiled the innovative Trolley Coaster at the Taiwan Design Expo'19, a dynamic installation that reimagines the shopping experience in a supermarket. The installation, a joint effort between the government and the public, features trolleys winding down tracks like roller coasters, creating a vibrant and joyful atmosphere reminiscent of a supermarket before the holiday season.
The Trolley Coaster, a standout feature of the expo, was a collaborative effort between the Pingtung County Government, Taiwan Design Center, and a private corporation, Carrefour. The installation utilized borrowed trolleys, reducing costs and potential waste of resources, with all trolleys safely returned to Carrefour after the exhibit to continue serving the public.
Spanning 6600 m2, the Trolley Coaster connects themed exhibitions within the expo, enhancing the overall visitor experience. The installation not only addresses space utilization challenges but also amplifies the exhibition's topicality and public engagement, attracting a record-breaking 4.25 million visitors.
Chu's Trolley Coaster successfully integrates cultural elements and deep connotations, resonating with audiences globally. His innovative approach to design has earned him the Bronze A' Design Award, recognizing his outstanding creativity and contribution to enhancing the quality of life through art, science, and technology.
