Siwei Lai's "Wu Xing" Package Design

Taiwan-based designer Siwei Lai's latest creation, "Wu Xing," is a package design that reimagines the five elements using animals as representative interpretations. The design emphasizes the cycle of symbiosis in the five elements, with each illustration featuring the sunrise and sunset to symbolize the beginning and end of the day.

The main highlight of the "Wu Xing" package design is its unique structure, which transforms from a book-shaped box into an independent display rack, allowing each card to be fully showcased. The package's hardcover and classic appearance adds to its appeal, making it stand out from conventional packaging designs.

The "Wu Xing" package design comes with specific technical specifications, including an outer box size of W18×L27×H4 cm and a display stand size of W53×H22.5×D9 cm after unfolding. The project, which commenced in January 2021 and concluded in April 2021, was carried out in Taichung City, Taiwan.

Siwei Lai's design process involved extensive research, including communication with the client, defining the brand's tone and manner, structural packaging design, visual design, and rigorous testing and adjustments to ensure optimal display and packaging efficiency. The "Wu Xing" package design was recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2022, highlighting its exceptional creativity, technical prowess, and innovative approach.
