Studio Yimu's Fuwa Fuwa

Studio Yimu, led by Ryan Chung, has unveiled Fuwa Fuwa, a modern dessert cafe in Toronto, Canada, blending the vibrant energy of youth culture with the solid quality of a classic eatery. The cafe's design reflects Japanese aesthetics and the spirit of exploration found in old Kyoto streets.

The 167-square meter space integrates seating along the sides, creating a unique focal point and allowing for an unobstructed view and pathway down the length of the entire space. The lighting and color placement were crucial in achieving a warm ambience, with even spread of lighting interacting with different material layers throughout the cafe.

The project, which started in May 2020 and was completed in November 2021, was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2023 for its outstanding expertise and innovation in interior space, retail, and exhibition design. Fuwa Fuwa's design pays homage to traditional Japanese design while offering a modern twist, creating a space that inspires creativity and exploration.
