Glacier Lament

Jiabao Li's latest creation, Glacier Lament, is a poignant portrayal of the urgent climate crisis through an immersive art installation lighting film. The project, exhibited at the Anchorage Museum, captures the stunning beauty, rapid change, and destructive power of glaciers, serving as a compelling call to action in the face of irreversible ecological damages from climate change.

What sets Glacier Lament apart is its unique representation of glacier blue, sourced directly from Alaskan glaciers. The dynamic, variable blue hues, symbolizing the disappearing glaciers, are encapsulated in recycled glass vials. As the glaciers melt, the vials fall, creating a powerful visual narrative on canvas.

Utilizing data sonification, data physicalization, and electronics, Glacier Lament stands at 4m x 6m x 6m, offering a multisensory experience that challenges viewers to confront the reality of climate change. The project has garnered international acclaim, exhibited at prestigious venues including the Alaska State Museum and Donghu Shan Art Museum in China.
