W Plus Salon: Redefining Hair Salon Spaces

W Plus Salon, designed by Millton Yu, is a hidden gem nestled in a residential alley in Taipei's east district. The salon's design concept, inspired by the homonym of "haircut" and "subtraction" in Mandarin, focuses on subtracting the unnecessary to create a new, beautiful addition. The space emphasizes the evolution from subtraction to addition, reflecting the brand's spirit after nine years of brewing.

The salon's unique design features three progressive layers of areas, creating a sophisticated indoor experience of lavishness. The exterior walls are adorned with floor-to-ceiling glass curtains, seamlessly integrating indoor and outdoor sceneries to offer a boundless view. Upon entering, guests are welcomed by an indoor green garden on a concrete platform, creating a natural and inviting ambiance. The space also boasts a cement wall screen with round holes, providing a captivating view through the perforations.

Spanning 196 square meters, the salon's experimental spatial concept presents a harmoniously connective yet individual space, suitable for various events such as exhibitions, presentations, parties, and lectures. The project was completed in June 2020, showcasing a slightly cool color palette and recycled materials, including abandoned cement pipes, sand, and gravel, to promote sustainability and renewal.

Millton Yu's W Plus Salon is the recipient of the prestigious A' Design Award in 2021, earning the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This accolade recognizes the salon's well-designed, practical, and innovative approach that meets professional and industrial requirements, contributing to a better world.
