Tinker Patches: Redefining Residential Interior Design

Hsin Ting Weng's Tinker Patches project is a stunning example of residential interior design, showcasing a unique approach to space and aesthetics. Situated in the downtown of Taichung city, the 78 square meter apartment stands out for its holistic white color scheme, which extends seamlessly throughout the space, accentuating agile movement and aesthetic lifestyle.

What sets Tinker Patches apart is the meticulous placement of colored details and furniture pieces, creating a lively and inspirational home environment. The apartment features sculptural curvy shapes at joints between walls, columns, beam to ceiling, and fixtures, softening the stiffness of every corner and permeating a wavy flow into the depth of the apartment.

Colors are boldly and lively scattered among the place, with bright neon, primary colors, and pastel tints adorning the furniture pieces. The textured wallpaper underneath the niche not only prevents scratches but also adds an exotic touch with its repetitive patterns. The master bedroom boasts a playful purplish gradation, adding a creative visualization and functionality with sliding doors that unfold a continuous colorful scheme in the walk-in closet.

Started in October 2020 and finished in February 2020, the Tinker Patches project challenges the traditional norms of residential interior design, blurring the primary-and-complementary relationship between the bedroom and open-plan living areas. The design overcomes the challenge of arranging colors lively popping out from shelves, thresholds, and door frames, bringing inviting contrasts with a whitish curvy backdrop without haphazard situations.

Hsin Ting Weng's Tinker Patches project is a testament to her astute sensibility to color and multi-material application. With a background in visual communication design and ongoing studies in architecture, Weng's work reflects her keenness for the versatility of both trendy and classic compositions, carrying out aesthetics and refinement in interior spaces.
