ChungSheng Chen Introduces Blocs Intummy, an Educational Learning Toy to Educate Children About Hunger and Food Shortage
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ChungSheng Chen introduces "Blocs Intummy," an educational learning toy designed to raise awareness of hunger and food shortage among preschool children. Inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, this innovative toy aims to promote the concept of everyone having access to safe and adequate food. The main purpose is to educate children about hunger, encourage sharing, and increase awareness of food scarcity.
The toy set includes geometrical food blocks that children can share to fill the empty stomachs of dolls, guided by an illustration story book. This interactive approach enhances children's understanding of food sharing and cherishing. The project, which started in July 2021, was completed in Tainan, Taiwan, and will debut at the Young Designer Exhibition (Yodex) in June 2022 at the Taipei World Trade Center NanGang Exhibition Hall.
Chen, along with a team of designers from Tainan University of Technology/Product Design Department, utilized hand-sewn and hand-cutting production technology, along with natural wood wax oil coating on the paint surface, to realize this unique educational toy. The design team's research included transforming abstract concepts into design language, early childhood education, cognitive psychology, and heuristic education to inspire awareness of hunger and encourage sharing among children.
ChungSheng Chen, a seasoned industrial design professional, holds a Master and Bachelor degree in Industrial Design and has been an associate professor teaching product design and creative design thinking for over 29 years. His commitment to creative design has earned him numerous accolades and awards, including the Iron A' Design Award in 2022 for Blocs Intummy.
