Ribbing Vase by Lihsing Wang

Renowned designer Lihsing Wang introduces the Ribbing Vase, a stunning fusion of metal materiality and digital manufacturing. Inspired by the rib knit fabric, this vase challenges traditional floral decor with its unique combination of rigidity and flexibility, creating a refreshing look that adapts to any spatial setting.

The Ribbing Vase features a woven appearance created with metal filament and 3D printing technology, resulting in a visually striking piece that evolves over time with a rusted patina, adding a nuanced, sculptural quality to its exterior layer.

Utilizing 3D printers and computational software, Grasshopper, Wang has optimized the production process, ensuring high-quality manufacturing, waste reduction, and cost efficiency. The vase is available in two sizes and is made from copper, iron, and brass materials.

Designed to serve as both a flower container and diffuser, the Ribbing Vase can be easily adapted to indoor or outdoor environments, offering users the option to embrace the natural oxidizing process for a unique, rustic texture.

Lihsing Wang's Ribbing Vase project began in April 2020 and was completed in January 2021, with all design and manufacturing taking place in Brooklyn, New York. The project represents a new approach to the relationship between vases and plants, challenging conventional perceptions of floral decor objects.

Lihsing Wang, an accomplished artist and designer based in New York City, has received numerous international awards for his innovative designs. In addition to his design successes, Wang is the visionary founder of Utopia, an event platform fostering cultural exchange and collaboration in the creative industry.
