The Shanghai Wzt Aristo Pavilion, designed by Liang Wei, is a 600m² interior design project that draws inspiration from the architectural style of Huizhou in the Jiangnan region of China. The design team extensively studied the core components of Huizhou architecture, such as column bases and wax gourd beams, to link traditional with modern design contexts.
The interior design distinguishes itself from conventional neo-Chinese design styles by incorporating integral load-bearing structures, such as beams and columns, into the design. This not only embodies the structural aesthetics of Chinese architecture but also ensures the utility of the space, accentuating the harmonious integration of functionality with ornamental aspects.
To restore the original beam and column structure interiorly, the project reuses components and intricately carves column bases using Huizhou stone carving techniques. The project also features a desktop crafted from transparent acrylic panels, delivering a visually appealing experience where modern and traditional spaces reflect and complement each other.
