TSAI DUNG LIN's award-winning Fish Migration design, inspired by the Chinese idiom "like a fish in the water," redefines residential spaces with its unique interior flow, materials, and lifestyle philosophy.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TSAI DUNG LIN's Fish Migration design is a testament to the seamless fusion of ancient Chinese concepts and modern interior design. Inspired by the idiom "like a fish in the water," the design embodies the idea that home is the only place that brings ease and peace to people. The use of black iron, concrete, and old woods creates a unique interior flow, allowing residents to experience a sense of infinity and tranquility within the 60 square meter space. The design was brought to life in 2019 in Taipei city, Taiwan, and was awarded the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2020.
The Fish Migration design challenges the conventional norms of residential spaces by integrating modern living functions into an aged house. Despite the technical and creative challenges, the design team successfully transformed the space, emphasizing simplicity, silence, and the unique living philosophy of the residents. The interior redesign and use of materials not only convey elegance but also reflect the households' lifestyle and living philosophy.
With the original brick wall and modern circle mirror at the entry, the design encapsulates the ancient Chinese concept of spherical heavens and flat earth. The Pisces steel object, designed for user interaction, further emphasizes the concept of freedom and elegance within the space. The redesign interior flow ensures that residents can feel the tranquility and elegance of the interior, reminiscent of fish freely swimming in the water.
