Introducing Cut and Paste: Preventing Visual Plagiarism
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Lisa Winstanley's design project, Cut and Paste: Preventing Visual Plagiarism, was inspired by constructivist layout with culturally appropriate imagery and bold typography. Launched in January 2020 at the School of Art, Design and Media, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, the project aims to address the ambiguity surrounding visual plagiarism and position it at the forefront of conversations around creativity.
The project includes an integrated design system with print collaterals such as an outer folder, a 36-page book, bookmark, posters, postcards, stickers, a notepad, and a custom-designed stationery kit. The materials were created to support an active learning workshop for young Singaporean designers, guiding them through complex topics via an active learning pedagogy.
Utilizing the existing color palette and fonts of the University brand, alongside culturally appropriate imagery and real-world examples of visual plagiarism, the project aims to bring awareness to the grey areas surrounding visual plagiarism and ethical intentions in creative practice.
