Award-winning designer Yuta Takahashi introduces Dashi Egg Sand, a packaging design for a Japanese Omelette Sandwich, aiming to enhance the dining experience from takeout to table.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Yuta Takahashi's Dashi Egg Sand packaging design is a unique take on enhancing the experience of takeout food. The wrapping paper features an illustration of a Sandwich's cross-section, expressing the softness and handmade feel of the dish. The use of original ink colors represents the ingredients and the client's store, while the unbleached kraft paper with water and oil-resistant processing aims to reduce environmental impact.
The design not only serves as a food container but also transforms into a piece of tableware upon opening, enriching the dining space and immersing consumers in the food experience. With a focus on sustainability and cost performance, the design includes various elements such as wrapping paper, message cards, lids, and stickers.
Starting in June 2020 in Iyo Saijo City, Ehime Prefecture, Japan, the project concluded in December 2020, with package production running from December 2020 to January 2021. The product has been available for sale since February 2021.
Takahashi's research into takeaway food containers led to the realization that the main function of takeout packaging was often limited to transporting the food, neglecting the potential to enhance the dining experience. This insight drove the design process, aiming to ensure that meals aren't simply consumed, especially in the context of increased takeout consumption due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in 2021, Dashi Egg Sand stands out for its creative and ingenious approach to packaging design, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology to improve the quality of life and make the world a better place.
