Alvan Suen's Hiyama Restaurant in Harbor City, Kowloon, Hong Kong, Offers a Luxurious Dining Experience Inspired by Nature and Zen
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Alvan Suen's Hiyama restaurant, located in Harbor City, Kowloon, Hong Kong, is a 2690 sq.ft. dining establishment that offers a unique and luxurious experience inspired by traditional Japanese mansions and gardens. The restaurant, designed under the concept of nature, Zen, and the traditional Japanese house, aims to transport guests to a noble family's mansion, creating a feeling of luxury and tranquility.
The design inspiration for Hiyama draws from various elements of traditional Japanese architecture, including verandas, tatami mats, pavilions, bamboo, spatial arrangement, and water features. By combining these elements, the restaurant creates the sensation of dining in a Japanese garden while being located within a shopping mall.
One of the unique features of Hiyama is the use of free-standing structures to create individual "rooms" within the restaurant, mimicking the layout of a traditional Japanese mansion. Each area within the restaurant represents a different house of the family, offering guests a varied and immersive dining experience.
Despite facing challenges such as restrictions on hanging fixtures from the ceiling, the design team overcame these obstacles by utilizing innovative construction techniques, such as building free-standing structures and installing equipment on the roof. The restaurant also features a bamboo path with mist, creating the illusion of an outdoor garden, and a pavilion at the end of the path leading to the main dining hall.
The restaurant's operation is carefully designed to enhance the overall experience for guests. A welcome bar serves as a waiting area where guests can enjoy complimentary drinks before being seated. The spatial interaction between the outdoor bamboo path and the dining areas creates an element of excitement and intrigue for guests, while flexible table settings and various dining spaces cater to different group sizes and occasions.
Hiyama's design and construction were completed between June 2019 and November 2019, resulting in a stunning and immersive dining environment that has garnered recognition, including the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2020.
Alvan Suen, the Managing Director and founder of Nameless Hong Kong Limited, is the creative force behind Hiyama. His dedication to environmental design and architectural innovation is evident in the thoughtful and captivating design of the restaurant.
