Discover the innovative Thorn lighting design by Yılmaz Dogan, a limitless and dynamic approach to lighting installations inspired by nature's organic forms.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Thorn, a groundbreaking lighting design by Yılmaz Dogan, draws inspiration from the unrestricted growth and differentiation of organic forms in nature. This innovative concept aims to reflect the natural, limitless growth of forms in lighting installations, transcending dimensional and formal constraints.
Comprising only two distinct pieces, Thorn offers unparalleled diversity in form and size, allowing for the creation of bespoke lighting installations with a sculptural and dynamic presence. Its unique structure harmonizes random installations with innovation, providing a transformative lighting solution for any living space.
Utilizing a minimal number of elements, Thorn maximizes form diversity and dimensioning in lighting design and production. The backbone piece, featuring three openings joining at 120 degrees, forms the core structure, seamlessly integrating with the gear system. The stick-shaped components, crafted from light massive wood lathe, contribute to the distinctive Thorn figure.
Yılmaz Dogan's Thorn design challenges traditional notions of lighting, offering a dimensionless approach that defies size limitations. With the freedom to produce Thorn in various lengths, areas, and volumes, this revolutionary concept redefines the possibilities of lighting design, enabling endless combinations and configurations.
Thorn's interaction with space is equally remarkable, as it allows for the creation of horizontal surfaces, curvilinear structures, and complex organic-geometric forms. By separating lighting elements and light bulbs with stick-shaped, lathed parts, Thorn introduces captivating contrasts and projectional shadows to its environment.
The Thorn project, initially conceived in 2015, underwent a reinterpretation in 2018 and was completed in September of the same year in Ankara. This visionary design made its debut at Design Week Turkey in November 2018, captivating audiences with its innovative approach to lighting.
Yılmaz Dogan's Thorn design has garnered recognition and accolades, including the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures category in 2019. This esteemed accolade celebrates Thorn's exceptional creativity, technical prowess, and remarkable innovation, solidifying its position as a top-tier design concept.
