Heart of Dawu: Connecting Culture, Art, and Nature

The Heart of Dawu project, designed by Chien-Ming Chao, stands as a unique service area on Highway No. 9, serving as a gateway to Taitung County in the South Link Line. The project aims to not only provide a space for relaxation and shopping but also to connect the local characteristics, conveying the culture, art, and nature of Taitung, becoming the core building that establishes the value of the tourist fishing port.

The project's unique lighthouse imagery and its seamless integration with the surrounding landscape make it an iconic structure at Dawu Fishing Port. The building materials, including reinforced concrete, wood, and glass, were carefully chosen to harmonize with the natural environment, creating a space that blurs the boundaries between indoors and outdoors.

With a total base area of 33,947.95 sq. m. and a total floor area of 4436.63 square meters, the Heart of Dawu project offers visitors a unique experience, allowing them to enjoy the mountain view, sea view, Agricultural and Fishery Products Exhibition and Sales Center, and a comfortable resting area.

The project was not without its challenges, as the remote location posed difficulties in transporting manpower and materials. However, through the architect's control and quality requirements on site, the project overcame these challenges, resulting in a stunning and innovative curved structure that seamlessly blends with its surroundings.
