Elegant Empire: Curves, Arches, and Antique Brushed Brass Define a Luxurious Living Space

Yu-Shan Liu's Elegant Empire is a 366 m2 residential flat designed to embody the concept of luxury living. The space, located in New Taipei City, Taiwan, was completed in February 2023 and has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in 2024.

The design concept aimed to create a space where life flows effortlessly, with openness and elegance as its defining characteristics. The 4-bedroom flat is designed for a family of four, featuring rounded and curved elements that soften sharp corners and provide a cozy atmosphere. These design elements not only serve an aesthetic purpose but also function to connect different areas in the space while maintaining a sense of separation between them.

One of the unique features of Elegant Empire is the extensive use of antique brushed brass, which creates a clean and modern look throughout the public and private areas. The open-plan kitchen living room blends dining, entertaining, and socializing, making it perfect for a growing family and creating a large area for various activities.

Despite facing challenges such as converting a 2-flat space into a single-family home and incorporating a significant amount of brass metal while maintaining the style, Yu-Shan Liu successfully overcame these obstacles to create a harmonious and elegant living space. The judicious use of antique brushed brass adds a touch of elegance and modernity, unifying both public spaces and private areas with its clean, and timeless aesthetic.

Yu-Shan Liu, originally from Taipei City, Taiwan, has demonstrated exceptional creativity and ingenuity with Elegant Empire, earning the Bronze A' Design Award in 2024. This prestigious accolade recognizes designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in the quality of life and making the world a better place.
