Utospace: A Fusion of East and West Philosophy in Stainless Steel

Renowned designer Oi Lin Irene Yeung presents Utospace, a functional stainless steel candleholder set inspired by the ideals of Utopia and the harmonious integration found in the Analects of Confucius Zilu. This innovative design merges spiritualism, unity, and diversity, offering a versatile and aesthetically unique addition to any space.

UTOSPACE is a functional set of stainless steel vase or candle holder made of SUS316 (SS 18/10). It can be used as a vase or holder for candle pillars or sticks. There are 3 candle stick holders which can be removable and use individually. The base can also act as a tray for separately used.

Stainless Steel SUS316 is used for making the planter and candleholder set. Beside of traditional metalworking technique as pressing & stamping, CNC metal spinning is used to make the three candlestick holders.

This set is made of stainless steel grade SUS316 (SS18/10) For the metal processing, stamping, pressing and CNC metal spinning are used to form the set. Dimension: Diameter 250 x Height 115mm.

The design idea of Utospace comes from the ideal country of Utopia and the Asian philosophy, the Analects of Confucius Zilu, both of which also represent a kind of spiritualism, harmonious integration, and great unity.

The project started in Nov 2022 in Hong Kong and finished in Feb 2023 in China. Exploring various metalworking production techniques and mold design were crucial to the success of the production of this project. The creativity is totally beyond the production possibilities. The three candleholders for candlesticks are made by CNC metal spinning that are specifically designed to be assembled into the middle-plate, so that all the parts can be assembled or used separately.
