FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Transforming Tradition into Function: A Training Center

The Qian'nan Fire Station, designed by Haobo Wei & Jingsong Xie, draws inspiration from the traditional settlements in a mountainous area of karstic peaks, creating a modern "settlement" group space with a fire and rescue professional identity. The site's topography and local character are maintained, establishing a public courtyard space with a professional character using red and white materials, symbolizing the honor of the profession and the blooming of the mountains.

The design, based on the topography of the site, forms continuous courtyards in groups of units, transforming the residential space into an urban public space while maintaining the character of the local place. The building's core function is firefighting and rescue, with offices, training, and logistics forming an occupational complex. The continuous open courtyard and the functional organization of the clusters provide the atmosphere of a local settlement.

The project, located in Guiyang Guizhou Province, China, was designed from June 2016 to October 2016 and constructed from March 2018 to May 2020 in Datang County, Qiannan Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou, China. The design was awarded Iron in A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2022.
