Residential Space Renovation: Live with Benevolence

Hsu Fu Chu, a renowned design team from Taiwan, has unveiled their latest project, "Live with Benevolence," a stunning renovation of an old house into a refreshing rooftop retreat. The project, completed in August 2020 in Taichung, Taiwan, has been awarded the Bronze A' Design Award for its outstanding creativity and resourcefulness in interior space, retail, and exhibition design.

The 150 square meter residential space posed unique challenges due to its rooftop location, which made it susceptible to extreme heat during the summer. To combat this, the design team implemented innovative solutions, including a new layer of thermal insulation material on the roof and the use of LOW-E glass for the floor-to-ceiling windows to reduce heat and UV damage. Additionally, the installation of cellular shades further enhanced the space's thermal insulation.

One of the most distinctive features of the design is the incorporation of an organic vegetable garden on the rooftop, not only reducing the temperature but also enriching the homeowner's life with joy. The project also retained a wall with architectural concrete, symbolizing the weight of the client's memories, which was carefully restored to its brand-new texture.
