Uds Ltd. unveils Soki Atami, a modern hot spring luxury hotel offering an all-encompassing healing experience, redefining traditional Ryokan accommodation.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Uds Ltd. introduces Soki Atami, a contemporary hot spring luxury hotel located in Atami, Shizuoka, Japan. Inspired by the traditional Japanese concept of Toji, the project aims to offer an innovative healing experience by integrating local culture, history, and the therapeutic benefits of natural hot springs. Soki Atami started its operation on November 1, 2020, in the coastal resort town of Atami, known for its ancient hot spring retreats.
Soki Atami is designed to cater to modern lifestyles while rediscovering the charm of the region. The hotel features locally-sourced materials, including wood, charred cedar, Japanese plastering, and traditional Washi paper dyed with natural pigments, creating a unique and authentic ambiance. The use of locally-sourced cypress, cedar, and Hon-Komatsu stone from the region adds a special touch to the design, emphasizing a strong connection with the local community.
The hotel offers an array of facilities, including personal hot spring-equipped rooms, a public onsen, a restaurant featuring locally-sourced seasonal delicacies, and a top-floor Tea Salon & Bar overlooking Atami Bay. Soki Atami aims to provide guests with an immersive experience, fostering connections with the region's rich nature, culture, and people.
The project team conducted extensive research on the region's history and traditional hot spring culture to create a space that authentically represents the local heritage. Soki Atami overcame creative and technical challenges by collaborating with local industries, sourcing materials and produce from the region, and integrating traditional Japanese design elements into a modern setting.
Uds Ltd. is a design firm committed to creating sustainable, vibrant urban spaces that balance social responsibility and business profitability. Soki Atami's exceptional design and innovative approach have earned it the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2021, recognizing its outstanding expertise, innovation, and remarkable level of excellence.
