UDS Ltd. unveils Strata Naha, a city resort hotel in the heart of Naha-city, Okinawa, offering a modern expression while deeply connecting to the region's rich nature and culture.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Strata Naha, a project by UDS Ltd., is a unique city resort hotel in Naha-city, Okinawa, designed to connect deeply with the region's rich nature and culture. The hotel aims to discover layers of preexisting cultural gems and add new layers of value to the ongoing cultural contents.
The hotel offers 221 guest rooms within its fifteen-story reinforced concrete structure, covering an area of about 8,040 square meters and standing at a height of approximately 50 meters.
The project site, submerged in the ocean 500 years ago, is located next to an ancient forest that was once an island. The hotel's design is deeply connected to the traditions and cultures cultivated through Okinawa's rich nature and history.
The hotel's design achieved a modern expression while using conventional materials from the region, such as Ryukyu limestone, traditional red roof tiles, and locally sourced mud. The interior and exterior spaces are integrated continuously, with some external materials introduced for the interior finishes.
Original textiles are incorporated in a modern interior design by collaborating with local traditional artisans, creating a valuable accommodation choice for guests to escape the city and relax at a convenient location and reasonable pricing.
The hotel purposed to be open its doors to the local community, aiming to revitalize the area by creating lively neighborhood sceneries and incorporating various craftworks throughout the hotel to generate opportunities for local artisans and support local businesses.
Strata Naha is located in Naha, the largest city in Okinawa, and is easily accessible from Naha International Airport. The hotel was completed and started its operation in April 2020.
The design concept and brand story were developed by tracing the land and culture's history around the planned site back to about 500 years ago. The architecture, interior, furniture, art, and decorations were comprehensively designed to follow the story.
The project obtained special permission from the government and proceeded on large-scale development by being acknowledged for its contributions to the region. All of the craftworks that take part in the interior design were created in close collaboration with local artisans.
UDS Ltd. is a design firm dedicated to creating sustainable, fun, and lively urban spaces by pursuing an optimum balance of social responsibility and business profitability. The company is based in Shibuya-ku, Japan.
