Unique Gift Box Symbolizing Dongguan Culture

Ruikang Xie, a visual designer from Dongguan, China, has unveiled a unique Freshman Admission Notice Gift Box for Dongguan University of Technology. The design concept, "I will come to Dongguan for my prospect," is embodied in the gift box, which combines the Chinese character "Guan" with elements of the city flower of Dongguan, the michelia alba. This gift box carries a hopeful future and the expectation towards the new city and the new study career. The project, started in July 2018 and completed in September, aims to bring the new Dongguan culture to people nationwide.

The gift box, measuring 360mmx260mmx55mm, features a pull-out design, allowing recipients to view its contents comprehensively. It includes a real michelia alba in a small bottle, enabling freshmen from all over China to experience the blooming scent of Dongguan. The package also contains a canvas bag, notebook, pen bag, and two "drifting bottles" filled with handwritten message notes from elder brothers, sisters, teachers, and leaders of Dongguan University of Technology.

This innovative design overcame the challenge of incorporating local culture and humanistic feelings into a gift box, bridging the emotional gap between freshmen and the university. The project also includes brochures with stories on Dongguan and plants with scents of Dongguan, aiming to convey the real essence of the city. The gift box design was awarded Bronze in A' Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design Award in 2021, recognizing its outstanding creativity and contribution to quality of life improvements.
