Zhou Leijing Unveils Birdy, a Speaker Designed to Evoke Emotional Connections

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Birdy: A Speaker Redefining User Experience

Zhou Leijing, a renowned designer from Hangzhou, China, has unveiled Birdy, a speaker that redefines the way users interact with their music. Inspired by the natural connection between humans and birds, Birdy aims to foster emotional connections through its innovative design.

Birdy stands out by offering a more engaging way to control music playback. With its bird-shaped game stick, users can interact with their music in a unique and interesting way, making the experience feel more natural and intuitive. The speaker features two 5W drivers with a dual-channel class D amplifier, and a joystick sensor on the top that detects the movement of the bird, controlling the music playback in both XY axes.

The project, which started in March 2021 in Qingdao and finished in September 2022 in Ningbo, was driven by the desire to bridge the gap between the digital and physical worlds, offering a more emotionally engaging user experience.

Birdy, with a full height of 316mm and a bottom cone speaker that is 250mm high with a maximum diameter of 142mm, is not just a speaker but also a smart home assistant that responds to different bird calls. Users can control their music playback by swinging the bird-shaped game stick at the top, similar to a joystick. Swinging the bird backward or forward adjusts the volume, while swinging it left or right skips to the previous or next song. This unique interaction design sets Birdy apart from traditional, lifeless speakers.

Zhou Leijing, who has won numerous design awards and is known for her expertise in human-computer interaction and intelligent design, has once again demonstrated her innovative approach with Birdy. The speaker was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2023, recognizing its well-designed, practical, and innovative features that meet professional and industrial requirements.
