DaMingDingDing: A Fusion of Oriental Culture and Modern Design

CHENG HUI HSIN's DaMingDingDing is a 220 square meter, 3F modern Chinese hot pot restaurant that seamlessly blends oriental culture with contemporary design. Inspired by elements of oriental culture, including window crafts, symbols, and constellations, the restaurant creates an atmosphere reminiscent of a royal palace. The seating zones are separated by metal plates, ensuring privacy while retaining visual penetration for natural interaction between guests.

From the chandelier symbolizing Chinese constellations to the exquisite decoration of the dining hall, the restaurant not only satisfies customers with delicacies but also appeals to them through the fulfillment of various sensations. The pot area utilizes linear changes of light strips to create a beautiful dining experience under a time tunnel.

The project, which began in October 2018 in Taiwan and concluded in September 2019 in Fuzhou, overcame the challenge of standing out in a mall with numerous Chinese fast-food restaurants. The designer aimed to create a modern atmosphere, allowing young customers to enjoy a jolly moment in a cheerful light field that reflects the sense of indoor space.
