FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Architect Tetsuya Matsumoto Redefines Japanese Restaurant Design

Moritomi Japanese Cuisine has unveiled its new location, drawing inspiration from the neighboring 16th century world heritage Himeji Castle. The relocation project, led by renowned architect Tetsuya Matsumoto, pays tribute to the military masterpiece by imitating its patterns using contemporary materials and methods, creating a stunning blend of tradition and modernity.

The new space, occupying parts of the first and second levels of an existing mixed-use building, features a unique blend of materials including rough and polished stone, black oxide-coated steel, tatami mats, and more. The exterior, clad in rough and polished stones, resembles the castle fortifications, while the interior replicates the castle's stone fortification base patterns, offering a one-of-a-kind dining experience.

With construction starting in June 2019 and concluding in September 2019, the project has redefined Japanese materiality and design lines, offering a fresh interpretation of traditional architectonics. The new space includes a variety of seating options, including small rooms, a counter seating area, and VIP and banquet rooms on the second level, providing a versatile and immersive dining experience.
